Barry Gannon | Federal Secretary | Queensland Branch Secretary

P: 07 3841 6977; E: barry.gannon@myapsa.com.au

Barry was working as a real estate salesman in Brisbane when the Property Sales Association of Queensland (PSAQ) was revitalised in 1994.  His previous experience in industrial relations as an organiser, and subsequently as full time State President of one of the most active Queensland unions suited him well to direct the efforts of the PSAQ.

With many years experience representing the interests of members in negotiations with employers and the necessary State and Federal Industrial Relations Commissions and Court appearances, he was and is the driving force behind the following:

  • negotiation of the (State) Property Sales Award in 1996
  • introduction of the (State) Property Management Award in 2002
  • creation of the Queensland Property Industry Registry (QPIR) as an industry-based registry for employment agreements in 2005
  • creation of the Real Estate Industry Group (REIG - "real estate" employer & employee assosications working together to obtain workable results for the industry) in 2007
  • the first Federal "Commission Only" award provisions in 2007
  • registration firstly as a transitional Federal union then subsequently as a full Federal union
  • successful negotiation of the Real Estate Industry Award 2010
  • led negotiations with real estate unions to become an amalgamated organisation to properly represent real estate employees' interests across the country
  • the recovery of now some millions of dollars of member entitlements in unpaid wages, annual leave, superannuation, long service leave and sales commissions.

Barry currently directs the day to day activities of the association and its officers providing services to members.
